How to Start an Enterprise Architecture Working Group
An enterprise architecture working group uses a process to design and implement a plan to address various issues related to business and the organization of the departments. Typically, these working groups are created with strong input from stakeholders and CIOs.
- Plan out what the goals of the group will be. This will serve as the foundation of your group. Without a clear objective, your group will more than likely be unsuccessful.
- Create an organizational plan that includes a detailed description of a working group program plan, any financial requirements and all the issues the group will address.
- Create a checklist for the group. Note the detailed process that the group will use to select, organize and direct a working group. When creating this checklist, its important that you incorporate the goals of the group, expertise required and the number of individuals needed in the working group to be successful.
- Prepare and deliver a request to the stakeholders and CIOs. This request should list your needs to assemble the group and a request for their assistance in nominating members. Once you've received contact, arrange a meeting with these individuals along with the potential group members. Prepare a list of questions along with the stakeholders and CIOs to present to the prospects at the formal orientation.
- At the meeting explain the goals of the group and how you plan to accomplish them. Present the candidates with the question list and record their answers for review later. Listen to the opinion of each prospect and compare it to the goals of the group. Discuss the experience level, opinions and answers to the prepared question with the determining team to make the final decision on the working group members.
