How to Store Baby Clothes
Storing old baby clothes can help to preserve them for future use. If the family is still growing, keeping the baby clothes for the next child to wear can help to save some money. There are several ways to store baby clothes to make them last until they are needed again.
- Wash the baby clothes before you store them. Make sure the clothes are dry, then fold and arrange them in piles. Sort the clothes by type, such as long sleeved shirts, shorts and pants. If you are also storing baby shoes, make sure to clean them as well.
- Decide which clothes to keep and which items to sell or give away. If you sell some of the clothing, you can use the money to buy your child new clothes. Once you have the clothes you want to keep ready to store, decide how many containers you need in order to fit all of the items neatly into stacks inside of each bin.
- Buy the containers you need for storing the baby clothes. Plastic containers are a solid choice, since you can seal them. Pick up some labels as well for marking the containers. The size of the containers to buy depends on your storage space or the amount of clothing that you want to keep.
- Decide where to put the storage containers once you fill them with clothing. If you intend to expand your family by having another child, keep the containers in a closet in the new baby’s room, if possible. You can also store the containers in a spare room or closet.
- Put the containers in an attic if you are not going to need the clothes for a long time. You can pull them out years later, to show your child the type of clothing that was in style. You can also give the clothes to your grandchildren to wear if the styles do not change too drastically over the years.
