How to Store Dance Apparel

Storing dance apparel properly will help to keep the outfit clean between performances. A dancer who regularly travels out of town to perform will also need to store the apparel on location. The dancer will need to launder the apparel before storing it, so the outfit is clean for the next performance.

  • Read the label on your dance apparel to find out to properly care for it. Some costumes will not hold up very well if you put them though the wash, so you should keep track of the items that you need to launder by hand. You should find out how to clean your dance footwear as well.

  • Measure the length of your dance outfit. To properly store it in a hanging bag you will need to know the right size to buy. Write down the dimensions of your outfit and shop for the bag to use for storing it.

  • Buy a bag that you can take with you on the road. Even if you perform locally and do not travel out of town, you still need to transport your dance apparel from home to the studio or performance hall. Go to a local department store to look for a good bag or check with your dance instructor to find the best place to shop.

  • Clean your dance outfit after you use it. Once it dries all the way, place the items on a hanger that will not cause any unsightly bumps on the shoulders. Put the costume in the bag and then hang it in your closet until your next performance.

  • Keep your dance footwear in a separate storage container. Buy a leather bag to use for storing the footwear so you can easily carry it from home to your performance. Make sure that you clean your footwear before you place it in the bag.
