How to Stretch Before Playing Disc Golf
Stretching before playing disc golf will help a player warm up. The throwing arm and especially the lower back area need loosening up in order for a player to perform well on the course. Stretching with a partner is one of the best ways to loosen up before playing disc golf.
- Arrive at the course early so you can stretch before playing disc golf. Meet with your playing partner if possible so you both can stretch. Go to an area of the course where there is little-to-no activity so you can stretch without worrying about discs flying by.
- Stretch your lower back to loosen up before a round of disc golf. Stand up straight with your legs at shoulder width. Slowly bend down and try to touch the tops of your shoes with your fingertips. Stand up straight to finish the stretch and then repeat it several more times.
- Warm up your throwing arm. Place the palm of your throwing hand on your upper back. Grasp your elbow with the opposite hand and apply pressure to stretch your throwing arm. You can also have your playing partner apply pressure to the arm. Do a few stretches and then shake your throwing arm once you finish.
- Perform a shoulder stretch to loosen up. Bring your throwing arm across your body and keep it parallel to the ground. Hold the back of your throwing arm with your opposite hand. Gently push your arm toward your chest and hold it still for 10 seconds. Relax for a moment and repeat the stretch a few more times.
- Practice some throws with your playing partner to continue warming up. Lightly toss the disc back and forth while you wait to approach the first tee. You can also do some easy neck stretches while you are waiting to tee off.
