How to Style a Human Hair Wig

A human hair wig is an investment. If you know how to properly style these wigs you can change the hairstyle without damaging the wig. Since they are expensive, it’s worth knowing how to best protect your investment through proper styling. 

Styling a human hair wig is much easier than styling a synthetic wig.  This is because the human hair can handle the heat and abuse that synthetic hair simply cannot.

• Wash the wig very gently and then place it onto a wig stand to dry. If the hair tends to tangle, then it is best for you to use a shampoo that conditions as well. Make sure that the shampoo that you use is for wigs.


• Use a detangling comb to comb out the wig. Be sure to avoid the mesh part of the wig and the base as you brush.


• Use hair rollers on the hair while it is damp. Use a spray bottle to ensure that the hair stays damp as you put it in the rollers. You can also use a curling iron with the hair if you do not have rollers or do not like using them.


• Blow dry the hair or give it overnight to dry. Make sure that you do not blow dry the hair on a setting higher than medium. If using the rollers, then do not take them out until the hair is dry.


• Use a wig brush or a comb to brush out the hair after curling it. Use hair spray to keep the hair in place after you are finished.


• Finish styling the hair once it is on your head. You will not know for sure how it will look with the rest of your hair until it is on securely.
