How to Subcontract for PC Repair

The option of subcontracting PC repair services is a rewarding career or hobby for those individuals who are technologically advanced enough to perform the work. A successful PC repair contractor will have a solid foundation of experience in the field, the necessary tools and at least one certification in the field.

What You'll Need:

  • Work area

  • Storage area

  • Tool kit

  • Spare parts

  1. Prepare a working area that is clutter free and well lit. Make sure that the work area has adequate power outlets, a nearby phone line and a reliable connection to the Internet. If space is an issue, consider finding a storage area that can hold several computers that are awaiting either repair or pickup.

  2. Obtain a total computer tool kit. The kit should include nut drivers, small screwdrivers, and specialized tips and bits that allow you to easily work with security and hex head screws. Additionally, your tool kit should also include needle nosed pliers, clamping pliers, tweezers, chip pullers, soldering iron and a wire cutter and stripper.

  3. Gather a reserve of supplies and parts from salvaged computers or purchase them brand new from computer repair retailers. The parts you should have in your supply include, video cards, RAM, power supply, mother board, CPU and optical and hard drives. The amount of these supplies you have on hand will vary depending on the location of a retailer in your local area.

  4. Effectively communicate your ability to perform contracted PC repair services to both local computer shops and larger chain retailers. The individuals that work in these stores are your best option for free advertisement. If you have their confidence, they will often refer potential clients your way.
