How to Teach Higher Education With a Law Degree
Earning a law degree can open up many doors for you in life. However, just because you have a law degree does not mean that you have to always practice law. You can also utilize the degree to be in the field of education.
- Receive your law degree. This will mean that you need to receive your undergraduate degree in pre-law or a likeminded major. Then, you will need to graduate from law school. This process will be extremely expensive and will take at least eight years to complete. Although you will need to invest quite a bit of money to get through this process, it will be worth it in the long run.
- Practice law for a period of time. It is highly unlikely that you will get to teach in a school of higher learning if you have not spent time working in the field of law. You will need the practical experience so that you can teach others.
- Create a resume of your work experience when you are ready to explore the possibility of teaching. Highlight your education experience and any awards that you have received through the years. Also, list you complete work history, including any firms that you have worked for.
- Be willing to be an adjunct professor working for free or for a small stipend. Although you may not be able to become a tenured teacher at a university right away, becoming an adjunct professor will help you get your foot in the door.
