How to Teach at an Adult Education College
In order to teach a class at a community college for adult education, it is not required for you to possess a teaching degree. All you need is to be knowledgeable in the area you would like to teach in.
- Decide what type of class you would like to teach. You will need to consider what you are successful and knowledgeable about. This can include things such as selling on eBay, baking, using computers, or sewing. Choose a topic that can easily be taught over the course of a couple classes. Adult education classes are often very short and only take up a handful of days as compared to traditional college classes.
- Draft a proposal to submit to the community college you want to teach at. Be sure to include a resume detailing how you are knowledgeable in this category. List how many years you have been involved in this skill and include any training or certifications you may have.
- Draft a description of the course you plan on teaching. Look at a current catalog of community college classes to see how the course should be described.
- Decide how long the class will be and draw up an outline of what will be taught during the course of the class.
- Determine how much will be charged for the class. If you will be providing the supplies for the class, make sure to include this into the price.
- Submit all of the above information to the community college.
