How to Tell the Age of Maytag Appliances
You may need the maufacture date of your Maytag appliance to order proper replacement parts or to determine eligibility for warranties. Luckily, even if you no longer have the original documentation, you can obtain this information using the serial number located on your appliance.
- Find the serial number of your appliance. This information is on a sticker which also contains the model number. For a cook-top or a range, look inside the burner box or on the bottom of the appliance. For a dishwasher, look on the upper left corner of the frame or on the underside of the control panel. For a dryer, look inside the door, on the back wall, on the the back of the cabinet or inside the access panel. For a washer, look inside the lid, on the back left of the frame or behind the control panel. For other appliances, see your owner's manual or the manufacturer's website.
- Write down the model and serial number in a safe place, such as across the front of the owner's manual.
- Locate at the two letters in the serial number. This is the date code. The first letter represents the month, and the second letter is the year.
- Visit a site specializing in electrical forensics, which will have up to date Maytag codes. This will help you determine an approximate age. Because some codes may refer to multiple months, finding the exact age requires asking the manufacturer.
- Go to the Maytag site with the serial and model numbers in hand, and submit an e-mail help request or a request via live chat for the age of your appliance. A customer service representative should be able to tell you when the company made your appliance.
