How to Tell the Difference Between Fake Rolex Watches

Rolex watches have been a symbol of wealth, privilege and success for many decades. They are treasured not only as a timeless accessory but also as a sophisticated element of style and luxury for the fashionable elite. Many fake Rolexes can be purchased. Sometimes the purchase of a fake Rolex is intentional, and sometimes it is not.

There are very few people out there that would turn down the opportunity to own a genuine Rolex watch. Because of this, some purveyors try to sell fake or knock-off Rolex counterfeits, and try to pass them off as the real thing. In most cases, if the price of a "Rolex" watch seems too good to be true, then it probably is. However, there is always the chance that luck and good fortune may strike and make a genuine, authentic Rolex watch available.

If you are unsure if the watch you are considering is a real Rolex, consider the following things:

  1. Ticking. The second hand on a real Rolex moves around the face of the clock smoothly, as opposed to a regular watch, which will tick noticeably per second. If your watch is ticking, then it is a fake.

  2. Weight. Rolex watches are considerable heavy. If your watch has a lightweight, cheap or flimsy feel and weight, it is likely a fake Rolex.

  3. Imperfect letters and numbers. Most fake Rolex manufacturers cannot emulate the extremeley high level of craftsmanship and detail that goes into constructing a Rolex, resulting in numbers and letters that are even slightly rough or jagged. Some words may even be misspelled. If this is the case, the watch is definitely fake.

  4. Short and blunt hands. The hands on a Rolex watch are round and long.

  5. Beaded water on the crystal. A Rolex watch that has come in contact with water will not result in water beading up on the crystal of the face. To test it, wipe some water across the face of the watch.

  6. Serial and model numbers. Real Rolex watches will contain the proper manufacturing numbers on the links. A fake Rolex watch will likely not feature this.
