How to Test Marvin Windows
If your windows in your home aren’t functioning properly they could actually be costing you money and may need replacing. You should do a few simple tests to your windows and make sure this is not the case. These checks are not complicated and will not take that long.
- Look first for the American Architectural Manufacturers Association label on the window. This will only be found on windows made with the finest materials and they are made to last. The association also provides a listing of certified products that you can use.
- Find out what the energy efficiency rating is for the type of Marvin window you have is. As an example a LoE-272 window has a double metallic coating on the inside glass which reflects heat into your room in the winter and repels it back outside during the summer months. The type of windows you have installed in your home will normally depend on your climate where you live. Wide swings in temperature will also be a factor.
- Close all outer windows and doors in the home. To check the functional capability of the windows try turning your thermostat to a preset number, say 70 degrees F. Give it three hours and check the temperature in the house. If it is more than a couple of degrees lower or higher your windows are not doing what they should regarding conserving energy in the home.
- Grab the sides or tops of the windows and try to shake them. If there is any play in the windows, you may have air leaks around the windows. If it is serious, they may need repair or replacing.
- Feel around the window any time through the cooler months. If you can feel a draft or air passing into the home, you need to have the windows checked for proper installation. If it can be repaired do so or replace the window.
