  1. Wrap the GI around your uniform at the waist to prepare to tie it up. Hold one end of the belt in front of you while you wrap the other end around you once. Wrap the longer end of the belt over the other end that you held while wrapping around your back the first time. Wrap the long end around your back a second time. Wrap the longer end over the shorter end again.

  2. Put the longer end of the belt underneath the layer of the belt and pull it through the top. It should feel comfortable around your waist and not too tight.

  3. Take the long end of the belt and fold it down over the short end. Pull the belt to your left side while folding the belt.

  4. Take the short end in your hand and form a loop like when you tie a shoe. Wrap it around the long end of the belt.

  5. Let the long end go through the loop and pull it through tight to complete the knot. It takes practice to get the hang of tying the karate GI.

  6. Place your index finger in between the belt near your belly button to see if the belt feels tight. Loosen it up by taking the knot and moving it left and right gently to make it more comfortable.
