How to Track Cruise Ships
When you want to stay in contact with any of your family or friends on a cruise ship, you can't use your cell phone to maintain contact, but you can see what the current weather conditions are and find the location of any ship at sea. Each tracking program works basically the same way.
- Do a keyword search. Look for "ship tracking" or, "cruise ship tracking." Ship tracking programs provide information on cruise ships, research vessels, tall ships, and any type of ship anywhere in the world.
- Click the link. Choose the tracking program you want. Downloads aren't necessary and the service is free. For repeat visitors, a low monthly fee may be charged on some sites.
- Search the menu. Click on the link for cruise ships. You'll see the names for the cruise lines, the ships and the port of origin. Some programs allow you to see if the ship has a webcam.
- Find the ship you want. Scroll down the list of cruise ships and click on the ship. You'll see the ship's current location by longitude and latitude, or the last known coordinates. You can also see the weather conditions. Check the height of the waves, air and water temperature.
- Use the program's features. Some programs have a "Zoom" feature so you can see a detailed map with the current location of the ship.
- Use the cruise line's features. Some cruise lines have their own tracking programs so you can track any ship in their line at any given time. Some of the cruise line's programs provide calendars to see where all cruise ships in a particular fleet for the next 24 hours. You can also see the itinerary on a daily basis, and even find out the cost for various shore excursions.
