How to Track Disability Allowance

You may be wondering how to track your disability allowance if you have been approved for disability. Each individual disability is different and you are granted a disability allowance based upon your circumstances. There are a few easy quick methods to track your disability allowance.

  1. Pull up the official website of the U.S. Social Security Administration. If you just recently applied you first need to check your status to make sure you got approved. Click on "Disability" located at the top of the home page. You will then be redirected to the disability area of the website. Click on "Check Application Status" to make sure your application has been approved. You will need your Social Security Number and Confirmation number (you received this when filed out your application online).  If your application has not yet been approved you will not be able to track your disability allowance until it is.

  2. Call the toll-free Social security hot line. You will need to enter in your Social Security Number and basic information, so have it ready. Note the automated system may not have the most updated disability information. This is just a rough estimate and not the most accurate information.

  3. Go in person to your local Social Security office or contact them by phone. If you are not able to get any information online or you did not originally apply online, it may be best to go this route. You must be patient, as it can be very time consuming, especially if the office is understaffed and it is a busy day.
