How to Complain About Your Post Office

How to Track a Package Mailed Parcel Post

Using the Parcel Post option at the Post Office allows you to ship packages at a low cost. This method of mailing, however, can be the slowest of all options. If you want to keep track of your package during its journey, use the tracking feature to get access to package updates.

  • Take your package to the Post Office counter during business hours. Ask the worker to mail the package Parcel Post with tracking and confirmation.

  • Retain your receipt and the tracking slip that the worker gives to you. Both of these documents contain the tracking number. A tracking number will be a long string of characters that contains both letters and numbers. It is often called a “label number.”

  • Log onto the United States Postal Service website and locate the “Track and Confirm” button on the left-hand side of the screen. Click the button to load the tracking page.

  • Enter your tracking number into the box provided. Double-check that the number is correct and click “Find.”

  • Use the information provided on the tracking page to determine your package’s current location and expected delivery date. Most packages only update when they reach a new destination, so you can expect updates at least once a day.

  • Check back 24 hours if your tracking page does not contain any information. A package will normally sit at the Post Office for the rest of the business day after you ship it. It can take at least 24 hours for the package to begin its journey.
