How to Track an Income Tax Rebate
Luckily for Americans, when you file a tax rebate in the United States, the Internal Revenue Service, or IRS, offers a free tracker online so that anyone can gauge how long it will take their tax rebate to get back to them.
- Prepare your taxes as you would normally. Once you have finished the financial aspects of the return, select how you would like to get your rebate. The three options include receiving it by mail, direct deposit or federal savings bonds. If you select to have your rebate come to you in federal savings bonds, you will not get a rebate.
- Log onto the IRS.gov website. Click the link that says "where's my return." To track your income tax rebate, you will need your social security number as well as the amount of the refund.
- Provide the requested information in the boxes provided. Once all the information is inputed, a pop-up window will appear telling you when your rebate is expected to be at your home or in your bank account. Note that choosing to have your income tax rebate directly deposited into your checking account will quicken the process of getting your return back to you. Unlike sending your return through the mail, you do not have to wait for the United States Post Office to travel across the country, directly depositing your refund will take 3-5 days from the time your refund is accepted by the IRS.
