How to Train Labrador Puppies to Hunt

Training a Labrador puppy to hunt can be a lot of work. However, with the right tools and initiative your puppies can be trained in no time. These lab puppies are popular to train because they are easy going but very hard workers when it comes to hunting.

Items Needed:

  • Fake animals

  • Harness

  • Dog treats

  1. Research all there is to know about training a lab puppy. There is a lot of information associated with training a puppy and it is best to know everything possible.

  2. Purchase a puppy from a local Labrador breeder. Stay away from puppy mills because those puppies tend to be very unhealthy. Instead, meet with a breeder that knows a lot about Labrador puppies and training them.

  3. Start training the puppy at an early age. Lab puppies are very smart so you want to use it to your advantage. Start training the puppies with simple commands such as “down” and “sit.”

  4. Move onto bigger tricks as the puppy gets older. You can start taking the puppy with you from an early age. Hunting can become a part of their everyday lives, and will eventually grow accustomed to the sound of ammunition and the looks of hunting gear.

  5. Take fake animals and train the puppy with scents. You can use dead rabbit fur or different animal fur so that puppy can get used to the smells. If you hunt duck or deer for a living then it’s best to practice hunting with these materials.

  6. Slowly take your puppy out for larger hunting trips. Over time, your puppy will understand the ins-and-outs of hunting and you will have a fabulous Labrador hunting dog.
