How to Train as a Dietary Aide

Dietary aides work to ensure that specific individuals are getting the balanced meals they need for optimal health. These professionals often work with the elderly or disabled to make sure their plans are scheduled on a weekly basis. Take the necessary steps to begin your career as a dietary aide.

  1. Earn your high school diploma. If you did not finish high school, enroll in the appropriate classes and complete the program to earn your general education diploma (GED). This is necessary in order to begin your career as a dietary aide.

  2. Enroll in a nutritional education program to become familiar with the basic of nutrition. You can find these types of classes at a local trade school or with a large grocery store chain that offers cooking classes. These types of classes provide you with the education and training you need without requiring you to earn an actual degree if this is not what you want.

  3. Volunteer at local facilities to get your foot in the door. These types of businesses allow you to volunteer for low or no pay in order to gain experience and help those in need. By volunteering, you are also able to add to your list of references once you gain enough experience to apply for an actual aide position.

  4. Apply for an aide position at facilities in need. Some facilities will offer formal training, or reimbursement for the required training, after you have been hired. Complete the necessary requirements and begin your work as a dietary aide.
