How to Train for a Concealed Weapons Permit

The way you earn a concealed weapons permit varies from state to state. This permit makes you qualified to own and carry a weapon that is concealed in a public setting, such as on your person. Proper training is essential for obtaining the permit.

Ask a state government office where you can fill out an application for the permit in your area. Before applying, you should have a good idea of whether or not you will qualify for the permit. You cannot have any felony convictions on your record and you must be a registered U.S. citizen. You will have to pay for the application. Fees vary from state to state.

Attend a training course and complete the required number of hours put forth by your state government. States usually require about 8 hours of weapon training, although some states allow fewer hours. During this training, you will learn how to properly carry the weapon and fire it efficiently. You must meet accuracy requirements to pass the training. You will be asked to fire at targets in a shooting range.

Take a follow up test after completing your training to earn the permit. If you do not pass the test, you will not be able to carry a concealed weapon. Passing the test shows that you learned and retained the important information during your training. If you fail the test, you will have to go through the training session again before being able to retake the test.
