How to Train for a Music Career

A music career like most entertainment related careers is 50 percent skill and 50 percent chance. Within this career field there are not guarantees sometimes not even when you do have a record deal. Before you venture down this road realize first that it is a long hard road that requires determination and large amount of hard work.

  1. Seek professional training. If you wish to play a musical instrument you should train with a professional who plays that instrument. If you wish to become a vocalist you should train with a professional voice coach. Start this training as early as possible.

  2. Enroll in a music degree program. Although it is not always necessary to possess a degree to obtain a music career this degree program provides you with knowledge and skills you could utilize as a backup plan.

  3. Enter contests for bands and/or singers during your degree program to gain exposure. These contests worked for Pink and Britney Spears. It is most certainly possible that you could win the right contest in which you could rise to fame.

  4. Promote yourself online. Utilize the Internet to gain exposure. Create videos and/or voice recordings of your music. You learned these skills during your degree program. Upload your songs and/or videos to YouTube.com and utilize advertising available online to drive traffic to your videos.

  5. Hire an agent. A professional agent has the ability to book performances for you. Working with an agent is probably one of your most vital learning experiences when branching out into the music industry. At this point you learn exactly who to trust and which path your career is headed toward.
