education from an accredited university. Education degrees are
helpful because they teach skills for working with young children
and what teaching strategies to use with non-native English
speakers. You will also learn classroom management skills, how to
redirect misbehavior and work with challenging students.

  2. Take ESL courses. Besides earning
a degree in Education you will wan to earn a post-graduate degree
certificate in ESL. This degree is specific to working with
non-English speaking students and how to communicate your lesson
plans. Also, taught are how to create innovative teaching plans, use
media for teaching and how to make lesson plans fun for students.

  3. Intern or volunteer in an ESL
classroom. By being a student teacher you will gain valuable
experience as an ESL teacher. You will learn practical classroom
skills, learn how to manage classrooms, create lesson plans and how
to involve family and community in building a successful program for
    your ESL students.

  4. Take advantage of community ESL activities. By attending public events, such as library or Immigration service ESL programs you can support your students and learn new activities and programs to use in your classroom. It is important to make ESL curriculum both innovative and effective, for the program to be a success.
