How to Transfer DSL Service

Moving from one residence to another requires that you have all your utilities transferred including your DSL service. This not a hard process, but there can be some challenges if you fail to call far enough in advance; you may end up with no DSL service the day you actually move.

  1. Check for a customer service phone
number on your DSL monthly statement. You need to call customer
service about three to four weeks prior to your move date. Provide the customer service representative with your new
address and zip code so that they can begin the transfer of service.

  2. Cancel your
current DSL services on the same day that your services are being
transferred to the new address, otherwise you may double pay for
your services. If you are moving to an area that the provider does
not offer DSL service and you have a current contract with them, you
will need to find out what the process is for being released from
    the contract.

  3. Ask for any specials they are
currently offering when you transfer your services. If you have had
your DSL service for some time, there may be lower prices offered
that your provided failed to tell you about. This is a great way to
get the latest specials and cut the costs of your DSL service at
    your new residence.

  4. Check to see if there is a
transfer fee. If there is, ask them to waive the fee; if you don't
ask for a fee waiver, they will not give it to you. They may still say
no but it is worth asking to try and save as much money as possible
    when moving.
