How to Treat Dental Surgery Pain
Pain is a common result of dental surgery. The dentist or oral surgeon will usually advise you on ways to relieve and treat your pain after surgery. Although painkillers are a common form of pain treatment, they are other ways to relieve the pain associated with dental surgery. If your pain gets too bad, you should call your dentist to seek additional advice.
- Fill any prescriptions given to you by the dentist or oral surgeon. Most oral surgeons will normally prescribe painkillers for dental surgery pain.
- Apply an ice pack to the spot on your face over the surgical area. The ice packs will help lessen the pain and reduce any swelling that has occurred.
- Eat soft foods such as pudding, soup or jello. These foods wont require any chewing and will keep you from experiencing pain from having to chew.
- Eat cold foods like ice cream or frozen yogurt. The coldness from these foods will help soothe pain at the site where surgery was performed.
- Take any antibiotics prescribes by your doctor. The antibiotics will fight a possible infection, which could make the dental pain even worse.
- Increase the circulation and blood flow of your mouth by doing exercises. Open and close your mouth slowly. Repeat these exercises anytime you feel pain.
