- Enlist the aid of someone who has worked on these outdoor fireplaces before if possible. Any device using LP can be dangerous. Ideally, learn from someone with experience.
- Read directions for your model. There are websites that give simple troubleshooting problem resolutions.
- Before doing anything to the device, turn off the gas. Usually this means you turn the knob clockwise until tight.
- Check how much fuel you have in your tank. This is a common problem that many people overlook. If there is not fuel the furnace will not operate. Follow your model’s manufacturer’s instructions. Disconnect the gas line that leads to the propane tank. You will need pliers to remove the coupler. Insert gauge and check fuel level.
- Clean out air that may be trapped in the lines once you have disconnected them. This is something that often happens when a tank has just been filled recently. Some people recommend blowing compressed air through the lines to remove air and anything that is clogging the line. Look for obvious holes or kinks. Put your hoses back together.
- Ensure that all of your switches are turned on. This includes the pilot and the thermostat.
- Make sure that you have a spark or clicking sound on your pilot light. Try to light and reset pilot light per directions. Look for any build up.
- Double check to make sure your gas and dampers are set correctly and on. Look for any loose wires. Check newer models for batteries.
- Call in an expert if these measures fail.
