How to Unlock Microsoft Word
Microsoft Word is an excellent computer program for creating professional and helpful documents. As an added security bonus, Microsoft Word allows users to lock their documents to prevent other users from making any edits. Locking these documents is fairly simple, but unlocking them can be somewhat of a task.
- Locate the Microsoft Word document you wish to unlock and open it. Enter the document password in the exact same manner that it was created when prompted. Any differences prevent you from gaining access to the document, preventing you from unlocking it.
- Click on the button in the upper-left hand corner with the windows logo, also known as the Microsoft button.
- Select "Prepare" and from that menu select "Encrypt Document."
- Highlight the password and hit the "Delete" button on your keyboard.
- Click "OK" and the password is permanently removed from the document.
- Once the password has been removed your document is unlocked allowing for any edits from other users. Depending on the sensitivity of the information included within your document, it may not be safe to unlock your documents to other users.
