How to Update PC Software
Software developers constantly issue updates for their software to help improve their programs. It is important that you keep software on your PC updated on a continuous basis, especially the anti-virus and anti-spyware applications you use on your computer, as well as Windows updates to keep your system secure.
- Check your anti-virus program for updates. Open the program and click the Check Updates link. You should set it to automatically check for updates once per day if your program has that setting.
- Check your anti-spyware applications for updates. Open the program and click the Check Updates button. You should also set this to automatically check for updates if it has that setting.
- Set Windows to automatically check for updates. Microsoft offers Windows updates on a continual basis. They do this to help keep your computer secure.
- Some software programs will charge you a fee for upgrades to their software. Other software vendors will offer updates to their customers free of charge.
- Visit the software developer’s website and search for updates. Make sure you select the correct updates for the type of operating system you use, such as Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Some programs installed on your computer will prompt you when there is an available update. In most cases, a dialog box will open on your computer alerting you that it is time to update your program. Click Yes to update the program now, if possible, or click Later and update the program manually at a later time.
