How to Use Carpet Shampooer

A person who wants to clean a dirty carpet can try using a carpet shampooer to do the job. If a person does not want to buy a carpet shampooer, many different places rent them out. A shampooer requires some effort to handle, but most people can easily do the job once they get used to operating the machine.

  1. Decide whether to buy a carpet shampooer or to rent one. Look online to find the prices for different carpet shampooers. If you decide not to buy a shampooer, check for stores in your city that rent them.

  2. Contact a store to find out how much it costs to rent a shampooer. Pick up the machine from a store if you decide to rent one. Ask the store clerk for the instructions if you do not know how to properly operate a carpet shampooer.

  3. Vacuum the carpet that you want to clean before you shampoo it. Read through the instruction manual to find out how to operate the shampooer. Add the appropriate amount of cleaning chemical and water to the machine and then take it to the first carpet that you want to shampoo.

  4. Place the carpet shampooer in the middle of the carpet until you learn how to handle it. Once you can control the machine properly, start to shampoo in the farthest corner of the carpet so you do not box yourself in. Slowly work the shampooer over the carpet until you finish the entire area. Clean other carpets in your home while the first one dries.

  5. Inspect the first carpet after it dries to see if you need to shampoo it a second time. If the carpet looks clean, wait for any other carpets to dry to see if they need another cleaning. Return the shampooer to the store once you finish cleaning all of the carpets. Make sure you get a return receipt from a clerk before you leave the store.
