How to Use Cement Flower Pot Molds
Buying large amounts of flowerpots can be expensive. It can also be hard to locate the right amount of flowerpots in the size or sizes that you need. To help save you money and help you obtain the right size pots, you may want to consider using cement molds to make your own flowerpots.
Supplies Needed:
- Flower Pot Mold (available at most craft or hobby supply
stores)
- Vegetable Oil or Petroleum Jelly
- Concrete Topping Mix
- Water
- Shovel or Wooden Spoon (for mixing the concrete)
- Use your finger or a small brush to apply the vegetable oil or the petroleum jelly evenly to the inside of your flowerpot mold. This will help to remove the concrete mold when its finished.
- Read the mixing instructions on the package of concrete mix. Follow the measurements for mixing the concrete and water. Use your wooden spoon or shovel to mix the concrete well. There should be no large lumps or bubbles in the concrete mixture.
- Dump the concrete mixture into the flowerpot mold.
- Firmly pat the sides of the mold after pouring in the concrete mixture. This helps to eliminate any air bubbles that may develop inside of the concrete. Allow the concrete mold to dry for 48 hours before you begin removing.
- Remove the concrete form from the flowerpot mold. Depending on the type of flower pot mold you have you may do this by either flipping the mold upside down onto a sturdy flat surface or taking the mold apart.
- Allow the mold seven days to properly dry before you begin to plant anything in it.
