How to Use Electric Engravers
An electric engraver makes engraving items a lot easier. You can use it to engrave patterns and designs on glass, stone and ceramic surfaces. Using an electric engraver is quite simple and does not require a lot of experience with engraving.
Things to have on hand:
- Glass plate
- Tape
- Black and white pattern or picture
- Electric engraver with removable tips
- Black felt
- Soft cloth
- Safety goggles
- Put the black and white pattern or picture you want to use under the bottom of the glass plate.
- Tape the pattern or picture to the plate.
- Attach the appropriate size width tip to the engraver.
- Use a thin tip for tracing and a wide tip for shading.
- Put on your safety goggles to protect your eyes.
- Hold the engraver the same way as you would hold a pen between your fingers at a forty five to seventy five degree angle to the surface you are going to be engraving.
- Turn on the engraver.
- Trace the outside of the pattern onto the plate with the tip of the electric engraver.
- Work from the outside of the pattern in.
- Press down firmly while outlining and then press lighter when you are shading.
- Remove the pattern.
- Replace the pattern with the black felt.
- Continue engraving and shading the rest of the pattern.
- Wipe away any debris using your soft cloth.
- Dip the edge of the soft cloth into the engraved pattern to remove any debris inside the pattern itself.
