- Purchase a shampoo for horses designed for human hair. The horse shampoos that are for human hair are not as harsh as the shampoos designed for horses. If you can't find a human horse shampoo, it is safe to use shampoo for horses sparingly.
- Wet your hair before applying the shampoo. Your hair should have enough water to make it damp, not dripping wet.
- Use half the amount of shampoo that you normally would. Horse shampoo is of high concentration. You do not need to use a lot to achieve a good result. This is a case where less is more.
