How to Use Kung Fu Leopard Style Hand Strikes
There are many styles of martial arts, each with their own tradition and techniques. The Kung Fu martial arts style in particular, is a Chinese born martial arts discipline. Kung Fu was originally developed with protection and self-defense of the student in mind.
There are a number of variations of kung fu, and with some basic tips, you can work towards mastering leopard style hand strikes.
- Ensure that you are using the proper fist method before striking your opponent. This will help you strike small and vulnerable areas on your opponent’s body such as the throat or rib cage. In order to make the proper fist, curl your knuckles so that they are held straight out, and the knuckle of your forefinger is slightly higher than the rest of your knuckles. This will maximize damage upon impact with your opponent.
- Form a hook, or leopard’s claw with your hand. This can be done by bringing your fingers together and bending at the second knuckle. This claw is used in kung fu in order to execute grabs or tears.
- Create the Phoenix eye in order to strike smaller targets such as the space between the eye, or for the eyes themselves. Form a fist and ensure that you extend your forefinger up slightly.
- Form the kung fu knife hand by holding your thumbs in tight to your palms. Your fingers should extend straight. Once your hand is positioned correctly, you can use the side of your hand to strike the neck with a chopping motion.
