How to Use Ninjutsu Roll Techniques

Ninjutsu is a form of martial arts derived from Shinobi from Japan. It is mostly associated with trained assassins. The ninjutsu style of hand combat is comprised of different rolling techniques used for moving around and protecting the person while fighting.

Items Needed:

  • Cushioned mat for practice

  1. Start performing the ninjutsu roll by going through it slowly until you have a flawless technique. Doing this ensures that you learn the roll in a harmless manner and understand how to have your body absorb the blow of striking the ground in a well-ordered manner.

  2. Start by crouching low with your knees outward. Stretch your hands in front so your thumbs and fingers touch. When your hands touch the floor they will form a diamond shape. Do this every time you roll forward, because it allows the wrists and elbows to form a safe position to stop you from injuring yourself.

  3. Put your hands in a diamond shape on the floor and curve your head to the side. Do not let your head connect with the floor. Tuck your head under to the side with your spine right beneath the neck. This will allow you to assist yourself through the movement.

  4. Push through the movement with only your upper back connecting to the floor and let your feet land squarely on the ground. For this to happen, open your knees slightly and keep your feet in front.

  5. Clutch your arms out in front, first forward and then up. Do not let them connect to the ground after you finish rolling. The speed you roll with will give you momentum to get yourself back on your feet. Having your hands free allows you to attack at the end of the roll to defend yourself or use a weapon while rolling.
