How to Use a Clay Bar on a Corvette
Using a Clay bar in detailing your corvette brings out a smooth, deep glass like look to your cars finish by removing road grime, brake dust, tree sap and environmental contaminates which can dull and ruin your corvettes finish over time. The light clay bar can be used regularly after washing, the medium clay bar is used for prepping your car for painting and the heavy clay bar is used for paint over spray.
Material you will need.
• Bucket
• Water hose
• Car washing soap
• Large car sponge
• Micro fiber or lint free towels
• Clay bar kit
• Car wax kit
1. Park your car on a level paved surface away from traffic, or under a covered level area. Turn off your cars engine and let cool to prevent burns from touching exhaust pipes during washing and drying.
2. Open your car wash soap and squeeze a couple of ounces into the bucket. Then fill your bucket with warm water about half way to the top.
3. Wash your car in sections starting with the roof top, for example, take your hose and wet the roof of your car, wash that section with a soapy sponge then rinse that section before moving onto the passenger side of your car. Continue washing each section until you cover the entire car.
4. Use a micro fiber towel to dry your car's surface, once your car is washed and rinsed.
5. Break or cut your Clay bar into three equal pieces. Take one piece of the Clay bar and put the other two aside for future use, knead and roll it into a ball then flatten it out against your fingers till the piece of clay bar is about the size of your palm. If you drop the piece of clay bar discard it and use a fresh one.
6. Spray the clay bar fluid on a three foot by three foot section of your car, rub that section with the clay bar in even, light stokes with little pressure, if the clay bar sticks add more fluid, go over entire wet area with the clay till you do not feel any resistance.
7. Wipe clayed area dry with the towel and continue until entire car has been rubbed with the Clay bar.
8. Clay bar can also be used on the car windows, which helps in removing any unseen debris from them.
9. Inspect entire surface of your car by running your hands palm down over the paint and glass, if necessary re-wet and use clay bar on those areas that do not feel smooth and glassy to the touch.
10. Inspect and touch up any areas of your car that still feel rough with the clay bar. Use your towel and go over entire car for a last drying.
11. Wax your car starting at the top and working down to the side panels, working each section till your car is finished.
