How to Use a Leaf Blower
Leaf blowers are used to remove leaves and other debris from yards, sidewalks and driveways. There are many brands and types of leaf blowers on the market, but most are operated the same way. Leaf blowers can be purchased from most hardware stores and from many department stores.
- Mix the proper amounts of gas and oil together in a small gas can. Read the directions in your leaf blower's user manual to see how much of each to use. Label the jug so you know what it contains. Some leaf blowers may require only straight gas.
- Shake the can to mix the gas and oil, and pour it into the fuel tank of the leaf blower.
- Locate the primer button. This will look like a small, rubber, red, bulb-shaped button. Push it six times to prepare the leaf blower. Pull the trigger to close the choke.
- Pull the starting cord and move the choke trigger to the halfway position to open it partially.
- Pull the cord four or five more times or until the leaf blower starts. Allow the leaf blower to run for several seconds, and then move the trigger to open the choke. Hold the gas trigger in, and allow the leaf blower to run.
- Move the leaf blower to the leaves, and blow them in one direction. If you will pile the leaves and dispose of them, use the leaf blower to get the leaves as close to one part of the yard as possible. This makes them easier to rake into a pile.
- Blow leaves that will not be piled away from your yard, driveway or sidewalk. Use the leaf blower to move the leaves in one direction, moving it back and forth to remove stray leaves.
