How to Use a Safety Seal Off-Road Tire Repair Kit
Off-roading can be a lot of fun, but not when the rough ride tears a hole in your tire. If you enjoy off-roading, you should make sure you have a tire repair kit in your vehicle for just such an occurrence. The Safety Seal tire repair kit is a common kit that is easy to use.
- Put on a pair of safety or work gloves to protect your hands. Many of the objects that can puncture off-road tires are extremely sharp and may be difficult to remove safely if your hands are bare.
- Find the puncture in the tire and if you can locate the item that caused the puncture, try to remove it. If the object is deeply embedded in the tire, a set of pliers can come in handy to carefully pull the obstruction out of the tire.
- Use a small amount of the included lubricant on the probe from the tire repair kit. The probe helps you to determine how deep the cut is and in what direction the cut runs.
- Apply some of the same lubricant to a plug from the tire repair kit. Place the plug into the insertion tool so that equal parts are on either side of the tool.
- Push the insertion tool and plug into the cut. Hold the top of the plug against the tire and carefully remove the insertion tool so that you leave the plug inside the cut.
- Cut off any of the plug that is hanging outside the hole in the tire.
- Fill the tire with air and check for any leaks.
- Have the tire repaired at a tire repair store as soon as possible since the plug may not hold indefinitely.
