How to Use a Truck to Tow Disabled Vehicles
Your vehicle could become disabled without any warning. It can also be expensive to call a tow truck to have them move it just a couple blocks down the road to be repaired. A standard full sized truck should be able to be used as a tow truck to help you save time and money.
Things You'll Need:
- Tow Rope
- Attach a towrope to the front bumper of the broken down vehicle and the rear bumper of the truck. Towropes should be easy to find in an auto care store. It would be a good idea to keep a towrope in the trunk of your vehicle just in case an emergency like this happens. Make sure the rope is attached to part of the frame of both vehicles and not the plastic part of the bumper. The bumpers could easily rip off the vehicles if they're not attached to the frame.
- Put the disabled vehicle in neutral and turn on the four-way flashers. Have the person who was driving the disabled vehicle sit in the driver’s seat with one foot near the brake pedal.
- Start pulling the disabled vehicle with your truck. Turn on the trucks four way flashers because you won't be able to go very fast down the road. Try not to drive over 15 miles per hour on any road. Have the person in the disabled vehicle lightly engage the brakes if you make sudden stops so the vehicles don't hit each other. Also make sure the person in the disabled vehicle doesn't put their hands on the steering wheel.
