How to Use an Elliptical Machine
There are many benefits to using an elliptical machine, particularly if you require a low impact workout. While anyone can see positive results when using this machine on a regular basis, it's ideal for people with sports injuries or joint weakness. Regardless of who is using it, it's important to use the machine properly for maximum results.
- Put on a pair of socks and athletic shoes. Never use the elliptical trainer with your bare feet or inappropriate shoes.
- Place your feet flat on the foot pedals, but don't start pedaling.
- Enter your weight and set your workout type and duration using the instrument panel.
- Grip the poles firmly, one in each hand.
- Stand up straight with your shoulders pulled back. Tighten up your abs and look straight ahead.
- Slowly start moving your feet in a forward motion, gaining momentum as you do so. Make certain that your movements are smooth and that your body is balanced.
- Move the hand poles in tandem with your foot movements.
- Keep your heels down to prevent strain to your knees.
- Workout without the hand bars if you prefer.
- Reverse the movement of the foot pedals to add variety to your workout.
