How to Use an Industrial Sewing Machine
Industrial sewing machines are a more powerful and durable version of home sewing machines. Many are specialized for a single task for efficiency of processes since they are often used in sewing factories. Using one largely depends on what task it was designed to do.
Items Needed:
- Thread
- Sewing Machine Oil
- Tiny Screwdrivers
- User's Manual
- Bobbins
- Read through the user's manual if you have it. It provides important information on machine use, maintenance and components.
- Apply sewing machine oil in the tiny ports along the top, near the hand wheel and at the feed dog. Turn the wheel by hand to work the oil around. Clean up any excess oil.
- Open up the case and add oil to any ports indicated internally, which is usually indicated by an arrow engraved in the metal pointing toward the hold. The oil is necessary to keep moving parts free to move and avoid corrosion.
- Place the thread spool and bobbin on their posts, wind a bobbin with thread and cut the thread once the bobbin is full.
- Remove the bobbin case, which is under the feed dog, by pulling it straight out. Find the slit where the thread will come out and insert the bobbin into the case in the opposite direction that the thread will come out. Leave a two-inch long tail and reinsert it.
- Thread the machine from the spool post through the top guides, through the tensioner, thread arm and thread guide near the sewing needle.
- Thread the needle.
- Wind the hand wheel away from you until it pulls up the bobbin thread. Gather the threads and move them behind the foot.
- Raise the foot, place your fabric under it and move the foot back down to hold the fabric in place.
- Press the foot pedal slowly to sew your fabric. Adjust the thread tensioner according to the weight of the fabric.
