How to Volunteer at a Pet Clinic
If you have a love and passion for animals, perhaps volunteering at your local pet clinic may be a wise choice. Many pet clinics depend on their volunteers and their passion to help keep the clinic running. Volunteering at a pet clinic will allow you to assist in caring for abandoned animals and help find loving homes for them.
- Understand that though this is not a paid job you need to be committed to the job. This includes commitment of time and commitment to take any training required by the clinic if hired.
- Research and look up any local pet clinics near you either on the Internet or phonebook. Call the clinics ahead of time to see if they currently need any volunteers.
- Bring a form of identification and a cover letter explaining why you wish to volunteer at an animal clinic. Many clinics choose volunteers who have a passion for animals and may be selective in who they choose.
- Fill out the application if there is one. Answer all the questions and be as specific as possible. Many clinics look for people who have some sort of experience with animals. Also specify which area you wish to work in the most. For example, if you have more experience with cats and wish to continue working with them, state it in your application.
- List any other skills on your application. This could be computer literacy or any other skills you possess. Sometimes clinics will need volunteers to help with clereical work at the clinic.
- Follow up with the clinic if you do not hear from them after a week's time.
