How to Volunteer at the SCPA

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, commonly referred to as the SCPA is a worthwhile organization. Their main goal is to help protect animals from cruelty. This organization is always looking for volunteers to assist them with the care of the animals that are housed at their organizations around the country.

  1. Locate the closest SPCA branch nearest to your home by performing an Internet search using your preferred search engine and the keywords "SPCA" or "Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals," along with the name of the city and state in which you live.

  2. Write down the address and phone number for the SPCA location nearest to you.

  3. Realize that in order to volunteer for this organization you must be willing and able to commit to volunteering for at least 6 hours a month, for a minimum of six months.

  4. Ensure that you meet the age requirements for volunteering. All volunteers must be at least 15 to volunteer on their own, or 12 if they plan on volunteering with a parent or guardian.

  5. Contact the local SPCA office to see what type of volunteer positions are open at the time. There are numerous volunteer positions that are often in need of someone to fill, so choose the best match to your personal experience and skill level.

  6. Consider fostering a dog or cat. The foster program operated by the SPCA allows volunteers to take an animal into their home and care for them until they are adopted into their forever home.

  7. Pay the volunteer registration fee of $15. This covers the cost of your t-shirt, name tag and insurance while you are volunteering as well.
