How to Wash a Human Hair Weave
As with your natural hair, you should wash a human hair weave weekly if you wear the weave daily. Women choose to wear these weaves to save their own hair from over-processing and over-exposure to heating tools. You should treat the human hair weave in the same manner you would treat your own natural hair in order to get the best results.
What you will need:
- Wide-toothed comb
- Detangler spray
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
- Towel
- Remove tangles from a straight human hair weave using a wide-toothed comb. For crinkled or curly hair you should instead run your fingers through the hair, and not use a comb in order to de-tangle it. You can apply a small amount of detangler spray to aid the process.
- Shampoo the human weave hair in much the same way you would shampoo your natural hair, but take care to use a gentle shampoo since you will not usually know the quality of the hair. Shampoo the hair, rinse the shampoo completely out of it, then shampoo again and rinse.
- Use a towel to dry the hair and avoid getting it tangled. Use a light conditioner that will not weigh the hair down. Rinse the conditioner and towel dry the hair. In place of a rinse-out conditioner, you may use a leave-in conditioner if you wish.
- Air dry the human hair weave for as long as needed. You can use curling irons, flat irons and hair dryers on your human hair weave, but excessive heat from these tools can cause over-drying and damage to the hair. Vary the heat required with the coarseness of the hair, but in general, the heat should stay at a low to medium setting. You may use a few strands of hair to test how it reacts to a particular heat setting before applying that setting to the whole head.
