How to Wear Orthotics in a Dress Shoe

Orthotic materials are becoming popular to save wear and tear on the feet. Many foot ailments and conditions can be prevented or helped by orthotic devices. It is a challenge to wear othotics in a dress shoe. With the proper time and effort, the right pair of dress shoes can enhance your wardrobe while hiding your orthotic device. Look for shoes that are supportive, comfortable and flexible enough to allow for the orthotic.

  1. Decide on what type of orthotics you will be using in your dress shoe. There are different types of orthotics available to consumers.

  2. Bring your dress shoe with you when having your orthotic device made. Wear your dress shoe if you are purchasing some readily available devices.

  3. Choose a dress show that is supportive and is made of good quality materials. You may have to spend some time shopping for the right pair.

  4. Wear or insert the orthotic device into your chosen shoe. Accurate measurements are important. You will want some room for toes to be comfortable. The ankle area of the shoe should be stable and supportive.

  5. Check the flexibility of the shoe. The ideal dress shoe will be flexible to allow for natural movement of your foot with the orthotic device in place.

  6. Consider the style of shoe that you choose. You will want a shoe that looks good and does not show the orthotic device.

  7. Spend on taking some time to find that perfect pair of shoes. You will get more use out of the shoe if you choose a style that is classic in nature.

  8. Test the shoe by walking normally and checking for any slippage, pain or other problems. The shoe should feel comfortable on your feet.

  9. Choose a dress shoe that you will get the most wear out of. Consider looking for shoes that will take you through several seasons.

  10. Make sure that your feet feel well supportive and allow for a normal gait.
