How to Win Athletic Scholarships

You may be an athlete who wants to go onto college and play your special sport. There are ways to attend college and win a scholarship while playing your sport. Make sure to keep your grade average up after you have won the scholarship.

  1. Sit down with your parents and talk about college. Going to college is an awesome decision and an athletic scholarship can help you pay for the fees. Talk with your parents to make sure you are on the same page.

  2. Start looking at colleges to see which ones offer athletic scholarships in your chosen sport. This is something you may want to start doing early on in your high school career. You can have people come out to watch you play and if your good enough they will sign you on early.

  3. Fill out your FAFSA early in the school year your senior year of college. Athletic scholarships are excellent but in case you do not win one; you can still sign up to earn grants through the government.

  4. Contact the colleges you are interested in attending. Most colleges offer athletic scholarships but are waiting for people to fill the spaces. You may need to have someone come watch you play so they can estimate the skill you have. They want people on the team who will make a difference and you may have what they are looking for.

  5. Choose a college that may not be as big of a name. Smaller colleges still give out athletic scholarships and this may be your way of winning one. This does not mean your skill level is less but it does mean less competition for athletic scholarship funds.
