How to Choose a Putter

How to Win at Mini Golf

Winning at minature golf requires a player to develop a strategy that will work for a specific course. Some mini golf courses have difficult obstacles that are not easy to get by. A player will need to decide whether to try and take several shots to get by the obstacle or to go for the difficult shot instead.

  • Go over the layout of the mini golf course before you play a round. Watch other players navigate the course to come up with a solid strategy for each hole. It does not matter if you are a great putter when there are difficult obstacles on a hole. To win you still need to decide whether to go for the hard shot or to play it safe.

  • Use your own putter when you play mini golf. If you play on a regular golf course and own a set of clubs, you should bring your putter to the mini course. This helps in that you are already comfortable using the putter and will not have to play with one of the mini course models.

  • Practice alone before you play against an opponent. Learn the safest way to play each hole on the mini course. Play the hard shots as well in case you have to try them when you are losing to an opponent.

  • Work on your timing when you practice. Many mini courses have obstacles that move, so you will need to time your shot correctly in order to get near the cup. You should also practice short putts to find out how hard to hit the ball on the mini course greens.

  • Play it safe when you have a lead on your opponent. There is no need to try to make a nearly impossible shot when you are ahead on the scorecard. When you are ahead you force your opponent to go for the hard shots, which can often increase your lead.
