How to Word a Thank You Note for a Baptism Gift

The big day has passed; your baby’s baptism was beautiful and you received many gifts for him or her from thoughtful friends and relatives. You are thankful for your dear child and for all your loved ones that shared the day with your new family. Now you must write your thank you notes.

Items needed:

  • Stationery, note cards or pre-printed thank you cards

  • List of who gave what

  • Addresses

  • Stamps

  • Pen

  1. Plan to write your thank you notes in your own handwriting. It’s warmer and more personal. Find time while your baby is napping.

  2. Make yourself a cup of coffee or some tea, and gather together your materials in a comfortable, well-lit area.

  3. Warm up and think about each person you are writing to. You might begin by stamping and addressing your envelopes.

  4. Begin your thank you by expressing how happy you were that the person could share your baby’s baptism day or alternatively, how much the person was missed. Then thank them for their gift. Mention the gift specifically and descriptively. Note positive things about it such as the color that will match your baby’s eyes, or how personal and special it is. If the gift was money tell them what you plan to do with it. If it was a gift card, tell them what you plan to buy. Write a little about the next time you might expect to see them and express your anticipation of that meeting. A baptism thank you card doesn’t need to be long. You only need to write a few lines just to let the gift giver know how much you appreciated their thoughtfulness.

  5. Enclose a picture of the baby with their gift as a thoughtful return gift in each person's thank you card.
