How to Work at Municipal Golf Courses
A person doesn’t need to be an excellent golfer to obtain a job at the local golf course. Many golf courses or country clubs offer a variety of jobs, and not all of them have to do with golf. It’s important to understand what the job you’re applying for requires.
- Obtain a lot of knowledge of the game and even gain some experience playing golf if the job you’re applying for calls for it. Caddies and pro shop workers will need to be able to help golfers make decisions on their equipment. It will be important to know what clubs work well on the course and when to use them.
- Think about looking for management positions if you have anywhere from three to five years of experience in the golfing industry. Golf course rangers, marketing manager or starter jobs require a more experience than others.
- Put a resume together to highlight all of the appropriate skills, education and working experience you have that will help you get the job. Listing information that coincides with the job is very important. Once the resume is completed, stop by the golf course and ask to speak with the hiring manager. A position doesn’t always have to be available for a person to get their foot in the door.
- Look for municipal golf course job openings in the local newspaper or on the course’s website. Check frequently to avoid missing any opportunities.
- Apply for a restaurant or lifeguard position if you have experience in those areas. Many municipal golf courses have a swimming pool or restaurant.
