How to Work for a Personal Injury Law Firm
There are countless personal injury law firms. If you desire to obtain a position in one of these firms, you will have to market yourself to them. The larger the law firm, the greater amount of competition you will face. If you do not have a degree or experience, you can market yourself as intern before applying for a job.
- Get a college degree. If you want to work for a personal injury law firm as an attorney, you will need a law degree. If you want to work as a secretary, a business degree will be sufficient.
- Get additional certifications related to the position you wish to obtain. If applying for a secretarial position, you will need a typing certificate. A certificate proclaiming your computer skills is an asset for any position.
- Write your resume. Many people have only one resume. You ought to tailor your resume to the position you are seeking. Successful job seekers have many different resumes. Highlight the qualifications that the company would consider an asset. Keep the resume professional; do not use colored paper or nontraditional font.
- Send your resume to the different firms you want to work for. Don’t limit yourself to only the firms that have an advertised opening. If a firm is not hiring, they can keep your resume on file. This gives you an advantage when the time comes that they are hiring.
- Go to the interview with confidence and professionalism. Dress for the position you want. If you are unsure of the firm’s dress code, it is better to err on the side of dressing up rather than dressing down. First impressions mean a lot. Make sure your clothing reflects your desire to work for the firm.
- Enjoy your new position. Keep taking college classes to gain additional certifications.
