How to Write Funeral Thank You's
The idea of having to write thank you notes after a funeral may be a hard job to accomplish while you are grieving, yet it is important to let people know that you appreciate their support and love. Understanding simple etiquette for writing funeral thank you notes may make the job a little easier.
Thank You Note Recipients: Not everyone who attends the funeral or viewing should receive a thank you note. It is not even necessary to send thank you notes to those who send cards. It is important to thank those who have sent flowers, who made memorial donations, who have helped the family financially, those who have helped the family in ways of giving (such as food, babysitting and organizing a meal), the Pallbearers and the clergy.
Be Organized: This job may have to fall on a friend or family member. It should be noted who sent what, who came to visit and who offered help in any way.
What to Write: Simply write a couple of sentences on a preprinted or blank thank you card.
Some ideas include:
We deeply appreciate your kindness and sympathy…
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers…
Thank you for the beautiful floral arrangement…
We appreciate your thoughtful donation to...
When to Send Thank You Notes: Thank you notes should be sent to the recipients at least two or three weeks following the funeral. If you feel this is something you cannot do, it is acceptable to have a friend or family member write the note on your behalf.
