How to Write a Contract When Selling Used Appliances

When you own a business that sells used appliances it is imperative that you know how to write a contract. A contract protects both the purchaser and the buyer if something happens to the appliance or there are any disagreements. It’s important to learn the proper way to write a contract.

  • Make the contract form on a personal computer. It is easier to do a blank form and make several copies. By doing so, any time that a used appliance is sold, a blank form can be used and easily filled in with the correct information. This way is also more cost effective.

  • Put your contact information at the top of the form. If the form is for a business put the business name at the top also. Any license information regarding the business would need to also be at the top of the form. Doing so makes the form look professional. Clients will see this and recognize that you are a professional.

  • List the purchaser information directly under the seller information.  Include a name as well as the address of the buyer.

  • Put all of the information regarding the item being sold under the seller information. Include the make, model, name and the serial number of the product. For example, Whirlpool dishwasher 49800 serial #1244. Put that the appliance is used and the price the buyer is paying for the unit.

  • Place any guarantee information next.  Also, if there is no guarantee and the unit is being sold “as is”, it is important to place that information in the contract also. This protects they seller if the appliances breaks down after a certain amount of time. It keeps the purchaser from wanting money back after the appliance breaks down. Again, this is to show that both parties are agreeing to the sale and the information regarding the sale and it is in writing.

  • State any extra miscellaneous charges or other information. This would include delivery charge or no delivery charge.

  • Add up the total cost and put that at the end of the contract and then both parties sign the contract. Both parties should sign in front of a witness to prevent any questions later. Always keep copies of contracts. This is in case any questions arise regarding the sale at another time
