How to Write a Marketing Plan for a Recording Artist

If you’d like to become a successful recording artist you’ll need to market yourself. There are several things you should consider when writing your marketing plan. The process will take time, but can lead to a fun and successful music career.

  • Write down a list of goals that you need to achieve and set realistic deadlines for each one. A recording artist will need to record an album to sell to people. Write down the date that you will plan to have the album recorded by and what you are going to do to promote your album. You can schedule radio interviews or play a CD release show to boost album sales.

  • Create a biography for the recording artist. You will need basic information about the recording artist in the bio. Include the name of the artists, where they are from and what they’ve accomplished throughout their career in the bio. Many booking agents like to see artist bios as it acts as a resume in the industry.

  • Get contact information for each venue where you believe the artist should play. Playing live shows is probably the best way to market a recording artist. Try to book the artist alongside established bands or musicians to gain a portion of their fan base. The more shows the artist plays the more people they will be exposed to.

  • Create flyers for appearances and shows and post them in areas where a lot of people visit. You can go to area businesses and ask them if it is okay to post the flyers at their establishment.
